Auslan

During Term 2, students will learn to interact with peers and teachers to describe the appearance of people and familiar objects using simple statements and supporting pictures or props. 

Students will participate in simple interactions by sharing who is in their family and describe what they look like using SASS (Size and Shape Specifiers) and familiar lexical adjectives such as TALL, CURLY and BROWN. By the end of this unit, students will have expanded their Auslan language skills from using simple sentence structures, to more complex phrases including Depicting Signs and Descriptors.

In addition, students will become familiar with a variety of classroom instructions such as LINE UP, SIT DOWN and LUNCH TIME and understand that there are two main Auslan dialects, southern and northern. Students will be encouraged to explore how being a member of their family, including the languages they use at home, contributes to their sense of identify
